The Rules.

Due to the level of writing required, players must be 18 years of age or older to join.
If you are not 18 years of age, please do not apply. You will not be accepted.

Application Rules

  1. This is an original character game only. No celebrities or fandom characters.

  2. You may only use non-reality based celebrities as PBs. No regular people, MySpace kids, models from GettyImages, reality TV stars, Suicide Girls, etc.

  3. You can mix species, but be reasonable with their powers. If an elf and a human have a child together, the child is not going to inherit everything from the elven parent. Powers and strengths are usually diminished by half or more. As for mixing magical abilities, it’s the exact opposite: A character can only inherit the powers from one side of their parentage.

  4. Heterosexuality, Bisexuality, & Homosexuality: We are friendly towards all of these and do not have limitations with any of them. However, there are two things we get tired of seeing constantly: A) Too many promiscuous bisexuals in applications, and B) too many bisexuals/gays for Asian male applications. These are commonly played stereotypes. Don’t do either unless you have a good reason for it, and you state this reason in their history. If you do it, just be smart about it and do not turn it into a stereotype. Nobody likes stereotypes.

  5. Before being accepted into the game, you must post your character’s information in their journal. If you put it in a post, make sure you link to it on their userinfo. You only have to include the “Character Information” part of the application. You do not have to post the “Other” or “Your” parts.

Player Rules
  1. Multiple characters per player are allowed. You may only bring in one character at a time, and only apply for as many characters that are feasible for you to have the time to play. The amount of characters you are allowed is up to the mods’ discretion and your general activity levels.

  2. Having one active character will not save you from losing an inactive character of yours. If you have 3 characters and only 1 is active, you will lose the other 2 if you do not make them active again. Non-played characters are not allowed here.

  3. God-modding is disallowed. No controlling the actions of another character unless you are given express permission from the player.

  4. Metagaming is disallowed. This means using OOC information IC. If private things happen between two characters, your character cannot know about it unless s/he has been told about it through someone who did see it or he/she has seen it themselves. Player knowledge does not equal character knowledge. You will be warned if you are found doing this.

  5. OOC Conflict: It happens. If you have reason to believe another player is acting out against you, try to talk to them about it. If they will not talk to you, please contact the mods. Do not let a problem like this get out of hand. We will help the two of you to find even ground in what ways we can to sort out the conflict. If it is such a big issue that players cannot work it out and it comes to affect the whole game, the mods will take whatever action they deem necessary for the situation.

  6. Hiatus / Leaving / Inactivity:

    • LEAVING: When leaving the game, contact the mods and let us know if you can. Don’t just disappear!

    • HIATUS: You are allowed to take a hiatus! Life gets hectic, and we understand that. If your hiatus lasts longer than a month, you will be contacted via e-mail each month that your hiatus continues. As long as you reply and say you plan to stay within the game, your character will remain in the game until you tell us to remove your character or do not reply to our e-mail. The maximum time you may remain without coming back from hiatus is four to five months.

    • INACTIVITY: Inactivity is judged on a one month basis. If your character(s) are inactive for one month, we will contact you via e-mail and let you know how long you have to make a new comment or a new post. If you do not make a new comment or a new post, that character will be removed from the game by the end of the time period given to you. Replying to the mod e-mails sent out does not save from inactivity unless you specifically request for a hiatus in your reply to us. We have a 3-strikes rule: If you are warned for inactivity 3 times in a row, you will be removed immediately upon the third time.

  7. READ ALL OF THE INFORMATION PAGES THOROUGHLY!

Posting Rules
  1. Posting Format: Posts to [info]nosuchplace or [info]nosuchtimes must be in 3rd person and past tense. You must also include this information at the beginning of your post:

    Who: Names (Narrative/Open/Etc.)
When: Time of Day (Noon or Evening would be fine.)
    Where: Location
What: Describe what is going on in the post!
  2. Communities for Posting:
    • [info]nosuchplace: The community for present-day posts. The subject line must include the day and date as we provide them in Day Announcements, such as “Wednesday: August 22, 2007” if that is the date in-game.

    • [info]nosuchtimes: The community for history posts that take place before your character came to Elysium or posts during Time Skips. It is not mandatory to post to this community at all. The subject line must include the name of the character(s) involved in the post.

  3. Character Journals: You may use them for non-interactive journal entries and sending out handwritten notes or gifts to other characters. A personal journal entry would be unreadable by other characters because it is a real journal your character keeps at home. Other characters may not comment on person journal entries as these are private and other characters will not have access to them. You are not required to post to your character’s journal. For sending out notes and gifts to other characters, you may format it however you like and use graphics if you so wish. Just remember to lj-cut large images!

  4. No friends-locking community entries. People cannot follow along with the RPG when there are friends-locked entries. Do not friends-lock entries on the main communities. You may lock anything you like on your character’s journal, though.

  5. Methods of Threading/Logging: Outside of posting in the commenting format on the communities, we allow scenes to be RPed via instant messenger programs, e-mail, PMs, and Google Docs. If the entry is longer than eight paragraphs, please put the rest of it under an lj-cut. If you don’t like one format, don’t worry! We don’t have restrictions on what formats you can use to write out scenes with other people.

  6. Length of Replies:

    • Commenting Over the Communities: We would like to see anything between two full paragraphs to five paragraphs with the average paragraph consisting of at least eight sentences. Anything more than that is up to you. We expect quality replies at this game, and the mods will contact you if you begin posting comments that are too short.

    • Logging: The length of your replies to each other, if you are making a log, are up to your discretion. Short replies always work better with logging.

  7. Non-English: If you include your character speaking or writing in any language other than English in a post, you must leave a translation in English within the same post at the bottom or under an lj-cut with an explanation that it is an English translation. You may write what they are saying in English and italicize it to indicate they are speaking another language, too.

  8. Mature Content: We allow mature content, such as sex and violence, to be posted. There are no limits to the content you’re allowed to post because, at the end of the day, it’s all fiction. If you don’t like something, you aren’t being forced to read it. Ignore it and move on. Just remember this isn’t an NC-17 game, and we prefer that you do not flood the community with sex posts every time you post. We allow it, but it doesn’t mean that’s all we want to see. You also must mark these posts with clear warnings on what the post contains and put them underneath a cut. You do not need to friends-lock such entries, but you must give a warning and lj-cut them. No exceptions.

    • Example of a mature content post:

      Who: John and Jane
      When: Night
      Where: The Water Bungalows
What: Romantic meeting under the stars.
      WARNING: Mature sexual content!
