The Rules.

Due to the level of writing required, players must be 18 years of age or older to join.
If you are not 18 years of age, please do not apply. You will not be accepted.

General Rules

  • Original characters only. Celebrities or fandom characters are not allowed here.

  • You must make an IC post within a week of your character being accepted. The reason for this rule is to promote healthy activity in game! It always good to get off on the right start from the beginning. If you do not post something IC within a week of being accepted, the character will be up for removal.

  • Activity Requirements: Activity is very important here. Ideally, we like for players to post something every 3 to 4 days. At the latest, once every two weeks. You may comment to an on-going post, start a new post, post a narrative, post a journal entry, send a note, etc. All of this counts as activity. If you start a thread, please try to finish it as well! We don’t want to see a lot of incomplete threads, and no one likes to be left hanging.

  • Multiple Characters: You may apply for as many as you can handle. Also, you may only apply for one at a time. Please remember you cannot bring in a new character unless you are active enough with the one(s) you already have. Regardless of how many characters you have, you must be active with all of them here. Make sure you can handle this if you take on more than one. If a character of yours becomes inactive, that character will be removed if you do not update him/her, even if you have other active characters in the game. We judge activity by character, not by player.

  • Godmoding/Metagaming: You may not godmode, or control the actions of a character who is not your own, unless you are given express permission from the other player. Metagaming, or using OOC information IC, is also against the rules. A player’s knowledge DOES NOT equal character knowledge. You will be warned if you are found doing either of these.

  • Drama: Keep it out of the game, and we mean it. Drama is the number #1 thing we will not tolerate. We ask that players attempt to talk things out and solve their own issues. If this does not work and the problem persists, contact the mods. If it is such a big issue that players cannot work it out and it comes to affect the whole game, the mods will take whatever action they deem necessary to solve the situation.

  • Hiatus, Leaving, & Inactivity: You are allowed to take a hiatus if you need one! Real life gets hectic and it takes a front row seat, and we definitely understand that. If your hiatus lasts longer than a month, you will be contacted via e-mail each month your hiatus continues. When leaving the game, contact the mods and let us know if you can. Don’t just disappear! E-mailing the mod account is courteous, and we do prefer this method. If your character(s) are inactive for one month, we will contact you via e-mail. Characters are removed if they do not update.

  • READ ALL OF THE INFORMATION PAGES THOROUGHLY! :)

Posting Rules
  • Posting Format: Posts to the communities must be in 3rd person and past tense. You must also include this information at the beginning of your post: “Who, When, Where, What.”

  • Communities for Posting:
    • [info]nosuchplace: The community for present-day posts. The subject line must include the day and date as we provide them in Day Announcements, such as “Wednesday: August 22, 2007” if that is the date in-game.

    • [info]nosuchtimes: The community for history posts that take place before your character came to Elysium or posts during Time Skips. It is not mandatory to post to this community at all. The subject line must include the name of the character(s) involved in the post.

  • Character Journals: You aren’t required to post to your character’s journal. However, you may use it for non-interactive journal entries and sending out handwritten notes or gifts to other characters. A personal journal entry would be unreadable by other characters because it is a real journal your character keeps at home. Other characters may not comment on person journal entries as these are private and other characters will not have access to them. For sending out notes and gifts to other characters, you may format it however you like and use graphics if you so wish. Just remember to lj-cut large images! You may post certain OOC things to your character’s journal, such as a list of threads or storylines, but you may not post random OOC things to your character’s journal.

  • Writing Style: We want to see quality storybook replies at this game. It’s meant to be fun to read as well as write. Include thoughts, actions, dialogue, etc. in what you write. Explore your character as well as the situation. Most of all, have fun. Writing isn’t meant to be a chore, and while the length requirements aren’t for everybody, we prefer writers who enjoy putting the effort into their writing.

  • Methods of Threading/Logging: Outside of posting in the commenting format on the communities, we allow scenes to be RPed via instant messenger programs, e-mail, PMs, and Google Docs. If the entry is longer than eight paragraphs, please put the rest of it under an lj-cut. If you don’t like one format, don’t worry! We don’t have restrictions on what formats you can use to write out scenes with other people.

  • Length of Replies:

    • Commenting over the Communities: We would like to see anything between two full paragraphs to five paragraphs with the average paragraph consisting of at least eight sentences. Anything more than that is up to you. We expect quality replies at this game, and the mods will contact you if you begin regularly posting comments that are too short.

    • Logging: The length of your replies to each other, if you are making a log, are up to your discretion. Short replies always work better with logging.

  • Non-English: If you include your character speaking or writing in any language other than English in a post, leave a translation in English at the bottom of the post, or under an lj-cut, with an explanation that it is an English translation. You may write what they are saying in English and italicize it to indicate they are speaking another language, too.

  • Adult/Mature Content: We allow mature content, such as sex and violence, to be posted. There are no limits to the content you’re allowed to post because, at the end of the day, it’s all fiction. If you don’t like something, you aren’t being forced to read it. Ignore it and move on. Just remember this isn’t an NC-17 game, and we prefer that you do not flood the community with sex posts. We allow it, but it doesn’t mean that’s all we want to see. You also must mark these posts with clear warnings on what the post contains and put them underneath a cut. No exceptions. You do not have to friends-lock these entries, but you may do so if it makes you comfortable.
